Sustainable Resort Wear

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he new wave of resort wear is here, and it looks fabulous. What’s more, it’s sustainable. For many, comfortable resort wear that makes you look great and that’s also sustainable is the holy grail of fashion.

Resort wear is also known as pre-spring, or cruise wear, depending on who you ask. As you plan your upcoming trip to places like French Polynesia, Bali or Thailand, nothing is more comfortable than wearing light, sustainable fabric. A linen tunic (made of flax plant) and a straw hat set the mood as you head to the beach with a good book. Then for dinner, change into a silk caftan as you enjoy a glass of wine and watch the sunset.

Color palette

The colors are stunning. Light pink, baby blue, oatmeal, off-white and navy hues set the stage for your wardrobe color palette. Add in a few mouth-watering prints and you’re dressed for the entire year. Resort collections are inspired by far-away locales such as Ibiza and Bali.

Vegan resort wear

Vegan resort wear is gaining in popularity. Breathable, natural fiber clothes are perfect for traveling. Hemp clothing has been around for years. And is a popular choice for your sustainable wardrobe. Hemp fiber is naturally anti-microbial, UV resistant and comfy. The lightweight fabric of linen makes for ease of movement and air circulation. Sure, it tends to crease easily, but that only adds to the fabric’s charm.

Organic cotton

Organic cotton is perfect for taking a multitude of gorgeous prints. Form-fitting knitwear, hand-loomed by expert craftsmen will flatter your form and give you the sense of freedom to both explore and relax. These high-quality, sustainable fabrics lend an air of luxury and confidence, and knowing you’re contributing to ethical standards makes it the icing on the cake.

Sustainable fashion

Sustainable businesses are very aware of their entire supply chain, and insist on their partners being sustainable too. They work closely with their production partners and source fabrics, both domestically and internationally, using organic fibers. Using such methods as AZO-free dyes, communities everywhere from downtown Los Angeles to remote India are full of passionate folk who live and work by their trade.  They produce clothing in small batches, with minimal environmental impact – which means much less is wasted.

How sustainability impacts the community

The ateliers that run these production houses are often pillars of the community, and help foster a strong support system for all. They help produce opportunity through education, fair-wage jobs, craft and skills training programs, and vocational training for street children. They employ women and are dedicated to women empowerment. All of this contributes to continued sustainability, both in the community and the fabrics they work with.

Sustainable resort wear

Sustainable resort wear is for those that want to be fashion-forward, yet reduce their footprint. Every piece makes a statement, and the wearer knows they are making a positive impact on the life of the designers and workers who lovingly breath life into each and every piece.

It’s always summer somewhere. So, why not wear it all year ‘round?
