Most beautiful Greek Islands | Antiparos

If you’ve been dreaming of a Greek island vacation, chances are you’ve investigated the bigger, better-known islands. Crete, Rhodes, and Santorini are just some of the islands that belong to Greece that get a lot of visitors – online and off.

But there are thousands of Greek islands, and sometimes, when you really want to find magic, you have to venture a little off the beaten track. Welcome to Antiparos, the most beautiful Greek island, and a true hidden gem.

Worth the Trek

Sometimes, you have to work a little harder to get the truly remarkable things in life, and a visit to Antiparos is no different. The island, which is located in the heart of the Cyclades islands, in the southern Aegean, doesn’t have an airport. Which means to get there, you need to fly to nearby Paros, and take the ferry from Pounda port.

Far from being a chore though, this is a charming start to your island adventure, and who could complain about spending time on a boat under the bright Greek sun?

Explore

Antiparos is not a tourist trap. Which means there’s not a lot of commercial, manufactured tourist experiences. But there is more than enough local culture and history to explore, and of course, as you would expect from a Greek island, the beaches are spectacular! There’s even a nudist beach, if you’re feeling particularly adventurous, or you want an all over tan.

If you’re not claustrophobic, a visit to the Cave of Antiparos is a must. This soaring underground cathedral has some of the most amazing stalactite and stalagmite formations you will ever see, and it’s just a stone’s throw from the town of Chora.

Within Chora town limits, you can visit the ruins of the Venetian Castle, which was built in the 15th century to protect the town from pirates!

There are also historic churches and museums to visit, and if you’re not content with the beaches on the island, you can visit the uninhabited island of Despotiko. It’s the perfect combination of rugged and breathtakingly beautiful, but when your desert island adventure is over, you can go back to your comfortable hotel bed!

Eat!

Of course, you can’t visit anywhere in Greece without indulging in local delicacies, and Antiparos is no different.

Indulge in freshly caught seafood while you sit at a table just a stone’s throw from the ocean, they were caught in. Sip cocktails under the vine leaves in a stone paved patio or enjoy tapas, strong coffee, and sweet treats at one of the cafés and tavernas dotted throughout the island.

The food, wine, and companionship. You will find in the bars, restaurants and other establishments in Antiparos simply cannot be matched.

Antiparos is not as modern or busy as some of the Greek islands. It feels like a lifetime away from the hustle and bustle of Athens or even Heraklion. You won’t find big shopping malls or flashy nightlife here. But if you want to experience the true magic of the Greek islands, there’s nothing that even comes close.
